ABSTRACT
Thisapplicationreportdescribesthedevelopmentofanewlowpowerbinauralwearabledigital
hearingaidplatformbasedontheTMS320C5000Efixedpointdigitalsignalprocessor(DSP).
Thisplatformisareal-timesystemcapableofprocessingtwoinputspeechchannelsata32KHz
samplingrateforeachchannelanddrivingastereoheadphoneoutput.Itprovidesforfrequency
shaping,noisesuppression,multibandamplitudecompression,andfrequencydependent
interauraltimedelayalgorithms.Sincetheplatformisaprogrammablesolutioncapableof
runningat1.8VforMIPSintensiveresearchand1Vforactualhearingaidimplementation,this
platformwillenablefurtherresearchintoimprovingthequalityoflifeforthehearingimpaired.
