DSPs are now incorporated with numerically intensive algorithms and must perform complex system control and communication protocols previously relegated to generalpurpose microprocessors. When a complicated control is mixed with DSP software, a real-time kernel is required. To achieve a short time to market, porting an existing RTOS may prove to be a good choice. This document describes how we ported the CORTEX RTOS to the Freescale MSC8101 DSP, which is based on the StarCore. SC140 core. This application note is addressed to StarCore SC140 RTOS developers and system programmers
