DSPs are now incorporated with numerically intensive algorithms and must perform complex system control and communication protocols previously relegated to generalpurpose microprocessors. When a complicated control is mixed with DSP software, a real-time kernel is required. To achieve a short time to market, porting an existing RTOS may prove to be a good choice.
