ThemainobjectiveofthisprojectistoimplementtheITU-UG.7298-kbit/sVocoder(Voice
Coder).TheANSICcodeisavailablefromITUbutitisnotsuitableforimplementationinreal
timeusingadigitalsignalprocessor(DSP)duetothelargecomputationaltimerequiredfor
theencoderanddecoder.ThemaintaskofthisprojectistostudyandunderstandtheITU-U
G.729standardandconverttheANSICcodesintoTMS320C54xassemblylanguagefor
real-timeimplementation.
Theimplementedvocodershouldbetestedusingreal-timespeechsignalscapturedfroman
analog-to-digitalconverter(ADC).ThisprojectusestheTMS320C54xevaluationmodule
(EVM)boardasthedevelopmentplatform.
THisapplicationreportisstructuredasfollows:section1givesabackgroundofspeech
coding,section2givesanoverviewoftheITU-UG.729standard,section3discusses
softwaredesignandconversiontoassemblylanguage,andsection4givestheresultofthe
