In injection molding as in other polymer operations, polymer must first be transformed from the solid state into the melt state. When a polymer is melted it will flow under pressure from the cylinder into the mold cavity through the gate. Usually the size of the gate is very small compared to the size of mold, and the plunger(Screw in line) forward time is of the order of seconds, implying that the viscous polymer melt must flow extremely fast into the mold cavity through the gate under a very high pressure.
