21.4 A Receiver for WCDMA/EDGE Mobile Phones with Inductorless Front-End in 65nm CMOS
active path. The mixer-core transistors effectively double in function as multiplexer switches. The front-end is followed by a baseband strip extending the gain range of the receiver from 9 to 69dB programmable in 3dB steps and implementing three different 3rd-order low-pass filter characteristics suitable for the three supported modes of operation. An on-chip automatic cut-off frequency calibration engine ensures an accuracy of better than 5%. The output stage of the baseband strip provides a limiting function designed to prevent overloading of the ΔΣ A/D converter following that stage in the system.
