Fault Protection Saves Multiplexers, Switches, and Downstream
Circuitry

Abstract: Discrete components are available to protect against faults caused when a voltage applied to the
input of a switch, mux, or signal-line circuit protector exceeds the voltage at the power supply pins. A more
practical approach to fault protection employs fault-protected switches, multiplexers, and signal-line circuit
protectors. This application note discusses several approaches that integrate fault protection into switches and
multiplexers.


An input fault condition occurs when a voltage applied to the input of a switch, mux
