Fiber Cross-Connects are capable of redirecting light from any one of a number of input fibers to any one of an equal number of output fibers. Many of todays cross connects are based on MEMS technology and contain a large array of 3D MEMS mirrors. Typical optical cross connect systems use closed loop electronic control. DACs are used to control the deflection of individual mirrors. Photo-diodes and log-amps are used to sense the position of each mirror and ADCs are used to digitise the readings and a controller or DSP sets the required DAC output voltages.
