Altera?Excalibur?devices and SOPC Builder provide a powerful solution for designing custom processor systems, which are much more flexible than application-specific standard products (ASSPs). ASSPs have a fixed peripheral set that limits the number of applications that they can be efficiently used in. However, with the introduction of the Excalibur family of devices, you can now use a single Excalibur device in multiple projects, as Excalibur devices contain programmable logic that allows you to implement customized peripheral sets.
