This application note describes an implementation of IDCT in the Virtex family. DCT/IDCT are used in the MPEG video standard to reduce the bandwidth requirements. IDCT is one of the most computation-intensive parts of the MPEG decoding process. A fast, hardware based
IDCT implementation is crucial to speed the MPEG decoding process. In this implementation, the inherent parallelism is exploited to achieve throughput as high as 3.28 Gbits/s, making it suitable for real time video applications. The implementation is synthesizable Verilog code at the RTL level.
